Bill Gates abruptly cancelled his appearance at the New Delhi AI Summit, coinciding with renewed scrutiny of the Epstein case.

Tech billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates has cancelled his planned keynote speech at the important AI Impact Summit in India. He suddenly pulled out, just hours before he was supposed to go on stage. This comes at a time when new claims about his past ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein are making headlines around the world.

The Official Position: “Stay Focused”

The Gates Foundation confirmed on Thursday that the Microsoft founder would not be attending the summit. They said this was to keep the agenda clear of distractions.

The foundation announced, “After careful consideration, and to maintain the AI Summit’s core focus, Mr.
Gates will not be giving his keynote address.” There was no specific reason given for the last-minute change, but the timing has led to a lot of speculation in both the tech and political worlds.

The Epstein Emails: New Claims

The withdrawal comes after a lot of attention on emails that Jeffrey Epstein is said to have written to himself in 2013.

The Claims: The draft messages suggest that Epstein helped Gates meet people in person and helped him get medicine to hide a medical condition from his then-wife, Melinda French Gates.

The Denial: Bill Gates and his people have fought back hard, calling the accusations “completely false” and “not backed up.”

A Significant Blow to the AI Summit

The AI Impact Summit is regarded as a crucial technology conference by many in the Global South.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the event on Thursday morning. Gates was expected to be the main speaker on how AI can help with global development.

Gates had been busy in India all week before the event. He met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu just a few days ago, and the Gates Foundation India confirmed his attendance on X (formerly Twitter) just a few days ago.

Change in Leadership

Even though the founder is no longer there, the foundation is still a major player at the summit. Ankur Vora, currently the President of the Africa and India Offices, is stepping in to represent the group. He’ll be taking over the role previously held by the departing billionaire.
